Trick ‘R Treat is a horror film written and directed by Michael Dougherty, which was released to the UK in 2009, 2 years after it was filmed and released to the USA in 2007.
If you search for Trick ‘R Treat on IMDB it reads as follows “Five interwoven stories that occur on Halloween: An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband; and a mean old man meets his match with a demonic, supernatural trick-or-treater.”
As I love this film with a passion I didn’t know how to write this and do it justice so I’ll just expand on what IMDB says about the film, NAH, the Masterpiece. First one up is “An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer”, this seemingly normal principle comes home with some shopping and sees one of the pupils from his school stealing all the sweets he left in a bowl-shaped pumpkin man thingy, with a nearby note saying “Sorry, we’re not at home, help yourself to ONE piece!” Mr Wilkin (the principle) tells him to sit down so they can talk, the boy does as he’s told and continues to eat the sweets left out by Mr Wilkin, after talking a little bit the boy starts throwing up blood, then promptly passes out. After realising it’s time Mr Wilkin drags him inside leaving a trail of blood on the floor and a huge blood patch on his shirt. That is only one of the death’s he is responsible for. He later goes on to bury the body in the back garden.
That’s enough for the teacher, no more spoilers regarding him. Next up is “A college virgin might have just met the guy for her” as it is horror film this obviously isn’t how it sounds, now we’re talking about Laurie. Laurie is (as stated before) the college virgin of something, maybe it’s having sex, maybe it isn’t. While she is going around with her friends to get their outfits, she is the only one saying that she doesn’t like that her boobs are visible, the other girls are saying they need to be seen more. After they all buy their costume they go round looking for guys to take to a secret part in the middle of the woods and at the end of the night there will be a special surprise for them. Laurie isn’t happy with any of them as she want’s her first one to be special and not some random dude working in the corner shop. The last thing I’m going to say about Laurie is that somebody tries to attack her, she may look all sweet and innocent but she is the furthest thing from.
“A group of teenagers pull a mean prank”. These teenagers are going around asking everybody for their pumpkins because there taking part in a scavenger hunt. After walking down all the side streets in town, they hardly got any pumpkins because the kid that was killed by Mr Wilkin was walking around destroying them all. Luckily Macy (The group’s leader (head bi*ch)) knows of somebody in town that is obsessed with “All Hallows Eve” and gives it the respect it deserves her name is Rhonda. After going to Rhonda’s house and claiming a load of pumpkins Macy and the other friends go on to prank Rhonda and their youngest friend, Chip. They tell them an age-old ghost story that the entire town know because it is supposed to take part at the local quarry. After the prank takes a bad turn and somebody gets hurt they realise they never should have gone there at all.
This next one is what the film opens up with, “A woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband”, Emma and Henry are husband and wife, while Henry loves the holiday (I’m not sure if he knows what it represents or not) his wife hates it just as much, if not more. After getting home from the festival that goes on in town every year the wife goes to blow out their pumpkin (I guess they were lucky to still have one with them been taken/smashed). Henry told her that she shouldn’t do that as it isn’t in the spirit of the night but she really doesn’t give a sh**. Emma want’s to take down all the decorations in the garden there and then but Henry keeps trying to stop her and getting in her way, so she tells him to go upstairs put on the (to put it politely) Xrated Adult movie they bought and she’ll be up to help him (trying to be polite is killing me here) Finish. She will help him finish. He then obviously runs upstairs and Emma starts removing the decorations, let’s just say that Henry falls asleep part way through the film after copious amounts of alcohol during the parade. He wakes up to the credits and an empty bed, he then goes outside seeing one of the sheets they put out as a ghost is now soaked in blood, he goes to remove it and what he sees leaves him like this.
Last but certainly not least “A mean old man meets his match with a demonic, supernatural trick-or-treater” Mr. Kreeg is the “Mean old man” I’m referring too. His hatred for all things human is explained in secret and you kinda need to work out all the references and piece it together but I think you’ll get there. I have faith in you. To start with, Mr Kreeg uses his dog to scare kids away from his house so he doesn’t need to interact with them, he also gets their sweets which is an added bonus. He starts hearing noises in his back garden which he later presumes is his dog as he is out there. As he roams around his house like only angry old men can he sees something keeps running from room to room and making noises so he tries to attack. But how can you fight a “supernatural trick-or-treater”? Watch it and find out.
Trick ‘R Treat is an insanely close second favorite Horror film coming in just behind Would You Rather.
