Home Invasion films!
This week’s Friday Favourites is going to be my 5 favorite home invasion films, if you have seen any of these let me know what you think. I recommend you check them all out.
5: Panic Room 2002
Panic Room stars Jodie Foster as a divorced woman and Kristen Stewart as her diabetic
daughter. They move into their new home and the first night three guys break in to find a fortune that was stashed there. Jodie and Kristen take up shelter in the panic room as the guys get up to no good.
4: Vacancy 2007
I know what you’re thinking “Vacancy” isn’t a home invasion film they are in a motel. For the purpose of this film a home invasion is somebody invading the place you currently are, be it your home or not. Let’s look at IMDB for how to describe this without too many spoilers “A married couple becomes stranded at an isolated motel and find hidden video cameras in their room. They soon realize that unless they escape, they’ll be the next victims of a snuff film”
3: The Purge 2013
The Purge is a 12 hour period from 7pm to 7am during which all previously criminal activity is now legal. The emergency services are not available. The only exceptions are that government officials of rank 10 or higher cannot be harmed and you can only use weapons below Class 4. We follow how one family are tormented by a group of people who want to purge.
2: Hush 2016
You’re deaf. You live alone. You have just seen the dead body of your best friend. You live in the middle of a forest and have no way of contacting anyone. He’s faster than you. He’s stronger than you. You’re bleeding out. How do you let anyone know that there is a killer after you? What do you do?
1: YOU’RE NEXT! 2011
My number one Home Invasion film is indeed You’re Next! I love this film so much I dressed as one of the characters for HorrorFest. Yes. I’m a nerd.
We open up with a family reunion but it quickly turns into a fight for life. The film is about 3 masked assailants who are not just invading the house but setting booby traps around the house so nobody can escape. If they leave themselves exposed the guys breaking in are more than likely to get a clear shot with the crossbow. If they go anywhere alone they will face a guy with a machete. What could make it worse? How about one of the family members being the reason this is happening?
